A unique facility where you can feel the thoughts of Hiroshi Sugimoto alongside the majestic passage of time.

This facility is a vibrant hub for the diverse expressions, thoughts, and collections of contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Designed by the New Material Research Laboratory, headed by Sugimoto and architect Tomoyuki Sakakida, construction took approximately 10 years. Numerous buildings are scattered across a hill overlooking Sagami Bay, and the complex continues to expand. As seen in Sugimoto's representative work "Seascape," his perspective has a deep connection to the sea. The facility's central features, the "Summer Solstice Sunrise 100-Meter Gallery" and the "Winter Solstice Sunrise Tunnel," face the direction of the summer and winter solstices' sunrises, respectively. Both spaces invite a view towards the sea. Sagami Bay can be seen from almost anywhere within the vast complex. Along with the vast expanse of time and activities that Sugimoto presents in various forms for the Earth and humanity, the majestic sea speaks to the hearts of visitors.
